Background:
The Vrindavana Preservation Society (VPS) was established on August 30th, 1998 on the auspicious occasion of Sri Radharani’s birthday celebration with the goals to promote Braj culture and the preservation of Braj Mandal. The VPS members in the US have been working very hard to expand our services in a number of areas. We currently organize festivals, a weekly kirtan, Vaisnava Academy for children, free yoga retreats/classes, picnics and a cricket tournament.
VPS has also extended relief efforts and service projects in India through the establishment of a VPS chapter in Vrindavana and Chennai, India. VPS-India is now instrumental in providing organized opportunities for many people to engage themselves in devotional service. Service in VPS has become important to the many people who participate.
As VPS has proven it's worthiness to it's members and the community, it is important for all of us to recognize that future development is a golden opportunity to create a spiritual/ cultural center for an expanding membership. This center can provide services such as function hall space for birthdays, weddings, memorial services; child day care, elder care, vegetarian restaurant, worship paraphernalia store, Hamsa Academy (for both children and adult), and temple room for worship and meditation and so much more. We are dedicated to serve the needs of our membership.
At the annual meeting of VPS on June 1, 2002 VPS board members established a Braj Center committee with the purpose of promoting Braj culture. At the same time Keshav Shukla and Suraj Mahadeo became the founding members of the Braj Center by donating $10,008 each.
For the past 3 years committee members have been working to inspire more people and have come up with a concrete plan with the goal to establish a Braj Center in the Quincy area. Braj Center project information was printed in the VPS yearbook of 2006. So far the Braj Center has generated more than $57,000 and has received a commitment from a number of VPS members to support this project by contributing donations, service and support.
