VPS invites you to participate in a
YOGATHON
to benefit Tsunami 2004 survivors

Event Date and Location:            Saturday, May 21, 2005 from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm

Broad Meadows School, Quincy, MA 02169

Why You Should Participate?:   Inspired by seeing VPS members use their personal funds to travel to India to distribute donations collected for tsunami relief, many donors exclaimed “We wish we could go, too!”  In response to that selfless desire to serve, VPS has come up with a plan to give you an opportunity to take part in a great cause, contributing your own valuable service, while nurturing your mind, body and soul with a full day of yoga practice! As an organization dedicated to unconditional sacrifice and service, we embrace the whole world as one big family, reaching out to people in this community to join us in serving others. We encourage everyone with an interest in yoga (from beginner to advanced) to join us on this special day when we can all come together as a family to help our brothers and sisters in India still suffering from the devastating tsunami.

How You Can Take Part?:        The YOGATHON is a free event and open to all ages. We encourage all participants to collect pledges in advance for a pre-determined dollar amount for each hour that you spend at the YOGATHON. If you can't spend the entire day, you can enroll as a team with members being present at different times throughout the event. If you would like to help out in the organization or in any other capacity (yoga instructor, childcare, registration, administration, clean-up, etc.), we will find a way to make your services useful.

Description of YOGATHON: The event will be divided into 4 sections:

·                   Yoga Long - Traditional Hatha Yoga Practices: This traditional yoga session will be led by some of the area's most seasoned practitioners of asanas, pranayamas and mudras (body postures and breath control).

·                    Yoga Fun - Alternative Yoga Practices: Led by an innovative team of teachers, this session features some new and very joyful experiences related to the practice of yoga.

·                   Yoga Maun - Meditative Yoga: Maun is a sanskrit term meaning restraint/silence. VPS members will lead us on a visual journey to the village of Oyyali Kuppam to learn about VPS efforts to restore hope there. Participants are led in a period of silent meditation on the YOGATHON's mission.

·                    Yoga Song - Mantra chanting: Led by talented musicians, this lively session will include mantra chanting accompanied by traditional Indian instruments.
